I’m like smack dab in the middle of 17 years old, at what age or level of experience would networking physically be something that I should definitely be doing? if it changes based on the job i’d like primarily to have something to do with programming
im beginning to feel that the best way to get in the games industry is just go indy. after a few years your have the experience to work at a company but by then you have your own company running
this is the most generic unhelpful video I've ever watched
As someone who recruits for a eSports company I wanna say this is a great video and very informative ❤️
🍀🌎🇵🇱👍👍👍
Is it possible be be an animator and a programmer in game dev at the same time? I am very much invested in both and can't choose my specialization
i just want to test video games not design them
i having been trying years to get a job at video game company . all i get is a rejection letter nothing more. rejected 29 times why no experience . ?
54 Rejections so far (only 2 interviews), but I'm not giving up! I'll get there one day!!!! :o)
No that not enough ….suppose I love playing games and I want to be game tester that's just not enough
I just want an office job in a game company
so is it possible to get a job in game dev without having a degree, i mean with just experience?
Fucking lie. I m a programmer and a full stack developer but have never any game before. I thought of applying at ubisoft as a programmer and they were asking for my project in game making using unity or any other engine
Top tips from a 15 yea industry vet that has worked on multiple AAA titles:
1. Be a woman (this is honest, and gives you an edge)
2. Be multi-faceted. You cannot just be a"designer" or an "engineer". You can of course specialize, having a secondary skill is crucial for longevity.
3. Ability to critically think through problems. Demonstrate problems you've identified with the games the studio makes you are applying for. Then solve those problems, it will blow them away.
4. Have a focused portfolio of only your best work. Some sketches (if an artist are welcomed for demonstrating your process to tackling visual design). If an engineer, then know your fundamentals well, be able to talk through the reasoning of your code. Demonstrate thinking big picture.
5. Do game jams. This one is a no brainer to see the benefits along the lines of cross disciplinary tools you will be exposed to,and the experience you get when making a game. You'll also get a portfolio piece out of it if you're lucky.
From what I have seen on LinkedIn of people who are currently working in the industry (focusing more on the art side, so lighting artist, environment artist, 3d modeler etc…), the one commonality between all of them is he/she went to school, graduated from school with some type of game art or game design type degree. I have not see any cases of "I majored in History, worked in customer service on the side, built up my portfolio and then got a job as a lighting artist (or whatever job):, rather it is more likely the case of "I went back to school for a degree in game art then got a job as Jr. Lighting artist"- the school part is vital, that is the commonality. Now I am sure you will find people who got a job in the video game industry in spite of having no related school degree (they majored in English, Psychology, economics etc…) but the overwhelming, the overwhelming majority is you have to go to school and graduate with some type of game art or programming degree to get a job in the industry. Now obviously a degree by itself is not enough, you still have to work on the portfolio, you still have to learn the software etc… but if you don't have a related degree, I don't think self study alone will be enough.
I mean if HR is looking at Candidate A: he has a resume, portfolio a non-related degree and no years of previous experience in the game industry, Vs Candidate B: he has a resume, portfolio, a related degree (so some type of game art/animation/programming/lighting etc…) and no years of previous experience in the game industry, whose resume do you think HR is goin to forward? Probably not candidate A, I mean why would they when Candidate B has all the qualifications of candidate A plus candidate B went to school for some type of game related degree. And to be clear this is not a knock on HR
This is not to discourage anyone from pursing a career in video games but to be realistic. From my observations, from what I have seen on LinkedIn, the one common factor that links most of the people working in the entry level gaming role is he/she went to school for some type of game art/programming, some type of game relate degree. So I think what we can conclude is, if you are still in high school and went a job in the game industry then you have to major in some type of game related degree. If you already graduated college and want to work in the game industry (lets assume art or programming side) then you have to go back to school to get some type of game related degree. Again this is not to denigrate the importance of the portfolio or of learning the software on your own but simply that won't be enough to get
"past HR" if you also don't have some type of game related degree.
I'm currently working as SDE-2 in a product company. And I want to do masters in Game development (programming) in U.S. can anyone please guide me on what all universities can I apply for?
But what if I want to be on the marketing and advertisement side of the gaming industry.
Thanks for this information. In about 7 years I'm going to join a game company so I will use these tips
Thank for such a video explaining about this career option. I am currently trying to figure out what can I approach as a career option and listing them and cancelling them out after getting an overlook of the aspects of that career and the fact if I really have interest in it and can do it. So thanks, I really appreciate it.
And most probably I will make my career somewhere in gaming industry, for some obvious and personal reasons.
"Ask for Feedback"
Lol
Hej Massive, jag har hört att man kan kallas till intervju på rekommendation av någon som känner till ens arbete eller arbetar hos er. D.vs när man har sökt en tjänst. Stämmer det?
Thanks man! I love game localization
I really liked this, very helpful and informative.
Excellent tips for starting in almost any industry. Start by specializing and building deep skills in that specialty. You need to offer specific skills that are valuable to an employer.

Currently holding a job in the manufacturing industry and trying to transition into the games industry while getting through a degree program somewhat related to games (BSc Multimedia tech & design). I don't know how to start. A lot of the tips mentioned already involves experience.
I completed my degree in Bsc.Visual Communnication. can I get a job in gaming industry? now I am just learning C,C++ and then I am willing to study python. Actually I am playing games for 9 years recent time I quit from all games, now I am just watching games of youtubers. I have big dreams about making my own pc game like open world games …
the rejection is auto generated , how can i get a feedback from a recruiter …. even on linkedin no one give a response they just ghost
I have ideas that's all . I can't code , I can't manage money or people. Is there a job for the "idea guy"
Awesome that’s how I got in, got rejected many times and made it. Don’t give up
every 3D artist role i've applied for i've never 1s had feedback, and when i ask them for feedback i don't hear anything back from them or they say they cant give feedback.
its like them saying oh your not right for the role but i can't tell you why. its so stupid recruiters actually put me off applying for roles because they don't understand the roles themselves.

How about a video on how Sebastian goes about his job; what does a 'recruiter' do in the gaming industry?
What kind of job position could I get in the gaming industry giving advice about video game mechanics (what works, what doesn't work well, what players will like, what they won't, the border between fun and challenge, etc.). I also perhaps want to be involved in the actual writing and execution of the story if it has one.
Can you help me?
When making tracking to transfer patches to the Windows folder, an error message appears to me. Do I have to do anything before transferring the patches?
It is very difficult to enter the industry when experience of at least 3 years is always required. A new graduate student with no contacts in the industry has no chance! it is almost IMPOSSIBLE. Say what you want, but it's about having contacts. Every time one applies for a job, they get the answer that they need experiencel For example in sound design, there is no feedback about the Demo or the application . The feedback is that they want one with more experience.
