So I've been doing animation stuff on my own for about a year now and I've uploaded some of my stuff to my youtube. I've never really taken any post secondary or anything for animating and I'm worried that it might hold me back. Should I consider post secondary or do you think I should just keep doing what I'm doing and send my portfolio to some smaller studios to start off with?
Hey its really good that u say the difference between movies and video games, I would like to be a gameplay animator too.
Anybody know where I can find more information about how to implement animations into Unreal or just more indepth info? Thanks
This was very helpful! T^T
I love games and animating but the technical part is what I have no clue about (I want to learn though). This was very clear and precise as to what a junior should aim for, thank you! 😀
I've always hated working with people that wants to work in the games industry and says I don't play games it's both male/females and whenever I reference a game or had toys on my Halo, Kratos etc.. My coworker at the time 6yrs she never head of Master Chief and didn't know WHAT A ZOMBIE IS and ask are they ALIVE OR DEAD…… real talk man LOL or the ones that doesn't play games but watches only the cut scenes and play PC only games.
Now there's nothing wrong with PC games but if you apply to a company that makes console or your not staying up to date on the latest games then why apply to a game studio. I love wwe but not the games so yrs ago when I worked on it it was fun. But this one person didn't know Ric Flair or how a wrestle does the low blow it was so lame watching the Lead explain this to another animator bottom-line I've worked with some silly people man. I think Riot games & Blizzard are really strict on who they hire and why you want to work for them.
Anyway so many good tips here main thing for me is passion for games is a MUST and I agree animators should be able to put their won animations in game it's so much fun and rewarding. It was weird years ago on a project just animating and not putting them in the game and I said I'll never do that again.
I love all your videos mate.
I want nothing more in life more than to get to do what you do and to do it along side of you would be bliss.💗
Great video! You answered a lot of questions for me.
I'm 16 and I want to become an animator in the uk what should I study in college?
this is a really Insightful video!
Hey Harvey, came across your video through one of my friends. I’m an animator who has recently started on some scripting. Hoping to get into gameplay animation myself. Thanks for your insights, they really motivated me to continue. I find solving the technicalities the best part of this and I’m glad to know that there are others who share the same love as I do.
Nice video Harvey! I really want Everywhere!!
Nice video, I'm more of a tools engineer but learning more about animation and sharing these videos with my friends who are starting gamedev
I want to be an digital artist. What programs do you suggest I learn? Would blender be a good start?
Can I join you I'm from Pakistan? Because sometimes the company does not give a work visa.
Really great video once again.
Animation is hard 😀
Great advice right there Harvey! thanks as always.
It looks as if you have read my mind! I was wondering how is animating for the gaming industry different to the movie industry, so this video came in handy! Cool video as always, stay safe and have a nice weekend and Ghost of Tsushima session! (Also, tomorrow is the hands on review of the DualSense!)
This is great. Thanks Harvey! Being a film animator I've always wondered about what's the role of a game animator. You've explained it really well.
thanks
Just the kind of content I needed right now to kick in some motivation to get work done. Love your efforts to produce this kind of video 👍
Thanks for the insightful video for gameplay animation! For gameplay animation reels what would be the ideal type of shots to have in them? Mostly attack and movement cycles? game engine footage?
Great video as always Harv! It feels especially relevant to me right now as I've recently started my first job animating for games, and I'm pushed more and more to learn Unity for game integration which is a little bit daunting as I'm not the most technically minded… But thinking of the end product and the prospect of seeing my animations really used ingame is definitely exciting
Ayyye this is actually what i'm going for. Real nice vid 😀
