10 million copies -> 34 millions ? I kinda doubt that very mush
the publisher takes a big percentage of the revenues
being successful is just a simple matter of being talented, skilled, intelligent, tenacious, never giving up and lucky
Its a great success, what he did and its inspiring. But one thing, I dont get, is why he build his own engine? I know you can learn many things by doing that, but I dont know if it is that valueable for the game. Can someone give me a hint, why he did this?
bro, battle network was so unique. Been waiting on the port for that one on switch!
IMHO today the only key to success is a LUCKY
I got idea for making my own game about 5 years ago during this years Im making whole gameplay story, characters, history, conflict sides, geographical background all kind of stuffs it will be medieval based RPG. I was always and as kid into modeling starting with plasticine sketching until making adventures in spore galactic adventure until I evolved to idea of creating my own game Im very very very stubborn in creating my own game and I enjoy creating ideas related to everything in game I sometimes cant sleep at night when my brains works. Recently I finnaly started modeling first city in unreal engine 4 architecture models walls windows etc made in blender, I never work with programming or c++ but this will be also "conquer" time by time I know I will one day make this game because its me "destiny" or my hobby. I hope this my comment inspired whoever is reading this and remember never give up from your ideas
Classic yoink and twist

Damn, I didn't know what to do before. But now I know what to do. I'm in a pinch between platformer or RPG. RPG I think is harder. But I really love them since I was a child. I want to make my own RPG that people can also enjoy
This is inspiring to me as a beginner indie game developer myself.
I think he didn't have to learn music from scratch. He said he have always been passionate about it and have made much music before.
Thank you so much for this video. You're the best
Thank you. I mean it as I am working on making my first true game and game company. I needed this information
U r awesome bro
3:23 this is portraits here are actually mods.
this was awesome, and love thatguyglen too
Where is that from 4:04 ?
if you are at the top you do nothing else than work. elon musk sleeps in office, I dont think a lot of people want that life
Great video, it's nice when somebody random becomes a success, as it makes you realise everyone has potential with the right idea and mindset
Fukk Notch, far from a genius. He based the whole game off of a Game Jam he collaborated with other people then took the idea. I played minecraft before it even had hunger and heath added. The final results of Minecraft can be achieved in a weekends time nowadays using tools like unity. So lazy that the original testing skin "Steve" is still the default. Concerned Ape still releases Multiple updates and patches a year for Stardew. He never sold out and Still only receives help with his game from Chucklefish for Multiplayer and Porting. Don't be a Notch in the post be the Concerned Ape reading it.
"I'm having fun doing it" is THE most important thing in this journey.
Eric Barone is my favorite developer and has made my favorite game
20XX is the game you're searching for man
This is inspiring!
Barone was a lifetime artist and musician. 3 years of his life . And a penchant for quality. He also chose a game that was possible to be made solo.
I'm a kid, and I want to make games so people can have even more fun and play the best they can! But as a 10 year old, is there am age restriction to getting money from it?
YEah I already have a game, waiting for maps, menu ads and other stuff to be done!
Wait until my platformer becomes a success story too
Awesome story! Does anyone know how he could afford to work on one game for four years? Did he get an advance from his publisher or did he have a part-time job he worked at simultaneously? I'm really curious since it seems like lack of money would be a huge obstacle to working on just one game for so long.
While my dream is not that big like the guy who made the stardew valley by himself, BUT! I also want to make my own game where everyone will enjoy my game. First I have to learn the complete basic and getting experience in html, css and javascript.
Cool, I have same JBL and 2 month from 0.And I made a game. I have nothing to do. Maybe Some Day… VINCHI GAMES….
I might have missed it, but you didn’t mention his girlfriend at all. He couldn’t have been successful without her, he was never working completely alone. She was supporting him financially and emotionally during the entire development of the game, working full time and paying their bills so that he could spend his days developing the game. She play tested, gave him ideas, and gave him the support to create this amazing game. It’s false to say that he truly did this on his own, because he wouldn’t have been able to do any of it without the financial support of his girlfriend for years
When he released the early version of the game, did he charge for it, or did he give it away?
The games I grew up with are Halo: Combat Evolved and ATV 2: Quad Power Racing. Damn, this might take me forever lol.
Huh I like the way you talk and think man. Awesome video.
I can successfully move out parents house if can make $2000
bro right as i was watching this i was thinking, damn how could I emulate megaman battle network 3? and then you casually mention that game… man they really need to bring that back, or i will
