Your review of the game design and mechanics is spot on. As someone from Taiwan, I also really appreciate the research you obviously did into the historical period that forms the background of the game.
When I heard you say that the real horrors were committed by citizens against each other, I knew that you get it. Props to the designers for conveying that sad, deep truth in an intriguing story filled with East Asian mysticism and subtle dread.
